Question
I have a metal thimble that has a thread cutter on one side. the only marks I can find are on the outside bottom where is says "M.T. Pat'd 10 Made in USA". It has a silver color that looks like it is over copper which shows thru in some places. On the apex of the thimble is a star.

Thanks for sending me photos of the thimble to view - this is always helpful.
Your thimble is the patented "Magic Thimble" - it is pot metal or aluminum (not silver) and it is marked M.T. and has a thread cutter. This thimble was patented in 1926 - Patent # 1,585,936. This thimble was made in very large quantities and marketed extensively.
In good condition; as your thimble appears to be, the value is around $9. Sometimes these will go higher on eBay if the bidder is not familiar with the thimble and the quantities that it was made in.
