Question
Hello,
I have an old American Scale Mfg. Co. weight/horoscope machine. Serial number 47801 manufactured in Johnstown, PA. It stands about 5 1/2 feet tall. On the front is written: 1cent -Weight  then  Horoscope and Weight  5cents. (It has a lot of coins in it now, but I don't have the key needed to open it in the back.)
Do you have any ideas about how old it is, or the current antique value?  Let me know if more information is needed, and many thanks for your assistance here.

Tim

Answer
Hi Tim,

Your American Scale Combination Model 530, was made in 1968. This machine took a penny on a side chute for your weight or a nickel in your birth mounth for your weight and horoscope. The guide value given in the book that I have for this model is $100.00. I think this is low and you should be able to ask anyware from 100.00 to 250.00 but this is just my opion on it's value, the guide reads $100.00. If you would like to e-mail me at jackpot7@ix.netcom.com so I can get your e-mail address, I'll e-mail you the information I have on it, that I scanned and saved in my computer. I hope this gives you the information your were looking for. Scale information is a little hard to find. The information that I have also has a photo of this scale, so you can check to see if we are talking about the same scale.
Thank You

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
