Question
I was given a drop leaf table with pedestals on each end with claw feet legs going in opposite directions. Everything is original. My problem is one end of the table is lower then the other so the table is not level and looks bad. What can I do to level it with out it being noticed.

                        Thank you

Answer
Hi Joanne
Nice to hear from you.
You can level your table by removing the pedestal on the low end and add some shims to bring it up to the correct height.
Turn the table over on the carpet, and remove the low pedestal. This is simply screwed in place and will be easy.
Then the shims and thats it.
I do think however the problem could be the legs on one side have spread as the table was level I'm sure when built.
Hope this helps
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
