Question
I HAD THIS TAPE MEASURE GIVEN TO ME BY AN 92 YEAR OLD LADY. iT IS 1VORY IN COLOR WITH A BLACK FLY ON IT. THE FLY IS WHAT YOU PULL THE TAPE OUT WITH. THE TAPE IS CLOTH. I CAN'T FIND THIS ANYWHERE AND WONDER IF IT IS WORTH ANYTHING. I ALSO HAVE A WOODEN EGG SORT SHAPE ON A HANDLE FOR DARNING. IS THIS WORTH ANYTHING?

Answer
Hello,
What you have is known as a figural tape measure and the material is Celluloid. The manufacturer is unknown but the tape was made in Japan. If the tape measure and the cloth tape itself are in excellent condition, then you have at item valued at around $60-100.
From your description and without seeing the darner, it is one of the more common ones and again, if it is in excellent condition then I'd put a value of around $15-20 on it. If the wood is ornate then more.
Hope this helps.

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
