Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Griswold Post Box

Question
Dear Sir,
I realize cast iron is not listed in your area of expertise. I hope you don't mind my question.  I have a Griswold Post Box  No. 2. On the inside of the flip down lid is " THE GRISWOLD MFG. Co. ERIE, PA. U.S.A. 348. It measures 5"in width and 11" in length, excluding the protrusions with holes for screws to mount the "box" on a house.
I have spent much time searching on E-Bay, Tias, and Google search mechanism for information. None were found on E-Bay or Tias and only one on Google. It was not similar to the one I have.

If you could give me any idea of what the value might be it would surely be appreciated-or give me suggestions as to other sources for information

Thank you very much.

Answer
Hi Davyne,
I don't normaly answer questions like this that are way out of bounds for me because people tend to give me poor feed back rating even though they know there not asking the right person. I just want to pass thi on to you, I don't know anything about this except I was in search for a grisworld corn muffon cast iron what you call it once for my wife. I found it ok but there was avable a griswold book and price guide. I never even looked at it but I know there is one out there. You my try to find this book, it may help you. I don't know anymore then that and can even help you with the authors nime or book name but there is one.
Thank You

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
