Collectibles-General (Antiques)/A.H. Stiehl Furniture bedroom set

Question
Hello,
I have a set of bedroom furniture (nightstand, dresser, desk & bench) that I would like to know more about.  The only marking I can find on it is a metal tag on the top dresser drawer that reads "A. H. Stiehl Furniture Co., Wholesale Furniture, New York".  The desk is marked "genuine walnut".  Furniture is in need of some repair, i.e., the veneer is chipping and splitting.  Could you help me decide if I should give it away or sell it? :)
Many thanks!

Answer
Hi Kristen
Nice to hear from you.
I believe this was a high end furniture company.
I recall a similar question some time back.
We can be certain the furniture was very well made, but the chipping and splitting veneer has ruined its value unless you have it restored which is costly.
Certainly would not give it away unless it was to a good friend or family member, and without seeing the set I cannot tell you if its saleable.
Not much help here but the best I can do.
Will also try to send this question to the question pool. Perhaps someone there can help.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
