Question
HI, We bought a hitchcock dining room suite from an antique dealer. It is probably from the 60s or 70s. Our problem is the removable criss cross "things" from the two upper doors are missing. Is there any way of replacing them? Let us know.  Thanks, Ken Allen  Struthers, Ohio   330-755-9965

Answer
Hi Ken
Nice to hear from you.
I just had a look at Van Dykes Restoration supply section in hopes that this decorative lattice insert for your doors may be available there.
Unfortunately its not but its easy enough to make out of 1/8 plywood mahogany (which is what the missing ones were made from) and if you have access to a scroll saw or a friend that does LOL.
And if you have no idea of how they should look, get back to me and I can give you a pattern.
Hopefully though the imprint of the missing ones are still visible on the glass (if you haven't cleaned it LOL)
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
