Question

Antique thing
We would love to know what this is.  The smaller vertical arms have slots where a missing horizontal piece would fit. The horizontal arms move up and dpewn the larger vertical piece and the holes are threaded as if for a wood tightening screw.

Answer
Hi Nancy
Nice to hear from you.
This is a bit out of my line Nancy, but I'll tell you what I think..LOL..can't resist.
To me this piece of "treenware" was used for making skiens of yarn after it was spun..only a guess, but it is called treenware.
Treenware is any wood items the settlers made from trees.
Don't know why its not called tree ware, but they added a N for some reason.
And if this is for yarn, its called a knitty knotty...funny name.
Perhaps someone else will come up with the correct answer as this is only a guess.
Interesting piece.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
