Question
Hello Barbara,
I'm trying to identify a thimble which has an ornate gold bottom and a silver top.  The inside bottom of thimble is marked with a shield and an ornate/stylized "S."  Can you identify the maker?  Thanks!
Diane

Answer
Hi Diane.  You have a thimble by Simons Bros. Co. of Philadelphia.  It is a sterling thimble, most probably with a gold washed band, not a gold band.  The mark is an Old English "S" in a crest.  Simons is still in the business of making thimbles today.  Barb
