Question
I have done some research and I believe that I have a JS&S.B 5litre watering can. It has the hallmark on the bottom and the registered design Number stamped on it which is a valid design number I have found out, which dates the can to 1904. It is in very good condition for its age. I would like to know is it possible it could be a copy? should I clean it to make it shiny again as it is almost black now? And if I were to sell it is there a market for such an item, and what kind of value does it carry?
I look forward to your response,

Miss Sara Garner

Answer
Hmmm - 5 litre is a very modern capacity. If marked as such, it is presumably modern.

But otherwise, you have done good research - there is little I can add. Cleaning: up to you, but it will sell more easily if cleaned. Value: I have no idea as this isn't a type of object I ever handle, but don't expect a fortune, and you certainly won't get enough to pay for the time required to clean it.
