Question
Dear Sir:
I have in my possesion a silver Tea/Coffee Pot.
On the bottom are as follows:
     James Dixon & Sons
         4   M49
          1434
Its a very pretty thing, in very good condition as well.
Sir, can you tell anything about this object? and/or is there a value to be added to it?

Answer

As you don't mention hallmarks, which are required if silver and made in Britain, then it is not silver. Probably silver plate, perhaps Britannia Metal (pewter sheet).

Sheffield, England, late 19th Century probably. Very common, value just a few dollars.
