Expert: Martin G Roberts - 11/26/2006
QuestionI am sorry I was not more specific. The writing on the bottom of each say: James Dixon and Sons. I didn't know there was a difference.
Please let me know what you think.
Thank you again.

-----Question-----
I own a James Dixon coffee pot and James Dixon tea pot.
The markings on the coffee pot are: 6 73 James Dixon
1497
The markings on the tea pot are: 93 5 James Dixon
1503
Would you be so kind in telling me what you think these are worth? I am 71 years old and my mother purchased these when I was about 10 years old.
Thank you so much.

If the mark is just "JAMES DIXON", with nothing else such as SON or SONS, then they date to the 1840s. But a very prolific maker, very common, and it will be Britannia metal (a pewter alloy formulated for fabrication - stamping, rolling, spinning, etc - rather than casting) which is not popular with collectors. So even if in excellent condition value will not exceed 100 US dollars for each, probably rather less.
Answer-
Oh dear, can you please give me completely accurate information. Is there any other mark or text stamped on these things? I cannot help if you do not provide accurate information.
In the meantime, and to shortcut things, they are now late 19th century and worth rather less than 100 dollars each, so it may no longer be worthwhile exchanging questions.
