Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Lamp Repairs

Question
I have a beautiful heavy, tall Victorian Lamp. It has a marble column and marble square at the bottom and a base made of pot metal with legs that encases the square marble. Two of the legs were broken off in the shipping. I am unable to find another base of very large size. Can the pot metal be repaired?

Answer
Hi, I can picture the type of lamp, but a picture would be more helpful. Most of these lamps had iron bases rather than pot metal. Pot metal came about a little later, and with reproductions. Generally pot metal cannot be repaired properly. Even glue epoxy doesn't hold. If it is iron, a specialty welding would repair it. You could also consider buying a replacement part for the entire base. thanks
