Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Lane Cedar Chest

Question
Hello, I bought a very old Lane Cedar chest with a date inside of Nov. 12,1929, for my daughter, it is beautiful with carved legs and carvings all on the outside. Someone tried to, well, started to paint it white "YUK" and I was wondering if you had any suggestions on whet stripper to use.
Thank You for your time, Michelle

Answer
Hi Michelle
Nice to hear from you.
Gosh I hate it when people plaster paint on these lovely old pieces.
Sounds like it will need a full refinish Michelle.
Certainly not a terribly hard job but time consuming is all.
And certainly worth the effort.
Use "Circa 1850" paint stripper.
If you need my instructions for stripping and refinishing get back to me.
Good Luck and great question.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
