Question
I have Uncle Al's 1950 Cherry diningroom set.  I have been cleaning it with lemon oil but have never oiled the bottom outside of the drawers or the inside walls of the credenza - all of those places you usually don't see.  Should those hidden inside areas be oiled too?  Also what can I put on the drawer bottom guide rail to keep the drawers sliding smoothly ... right now there is a layer of a waxy substance still on he drawers which I've been careful to keep.
Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Jane
Nice to hear from you.
Any finished wood areas should be waxed or in this case oiled as you prefer.
But never do it to any unfinished areas.
A wax candle rubbed over the glides does a good job of keeping them smooth.
Hope this helps
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
