Question
Hi Eileen,

We are having the Mother of All Garage Sales tommorow.  While cleaning up 2 mahogany end tables with leather tops that were my grandmothers I found a some lables on the bottom. One was metal with the words "PHILCRAFT Cincinnati Ohio"  the other was a lable from Mahogany Association, Inc. and had the #429 as the penalty contract number.  I tried to find "Philcraft Cincinnati Ohio" on the internet and immediately hit a wall.  Please help!

Answer
Hi Melinda
Nice to hear from you.
Maybe you should consider keeping these tables.
I would keep them both if they were your Gramas.
At a yard sale you will get nothing for them, and are they really taking up that much room? :-)
I could find nothing much about Philcraft, only that they made quality furniture, and were still in business in 1950.
For sure I would not let the mahogany table go.
Its the finest furniture wood there is and refinishes beautifully.
Good luck with the sale.

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
