Question
I have an old mirror with some of the backing scraped off.  Is there a product that I can spray on the back to fill in the part that is scraped off?  Thank you.

Answer
Hello Thea
Nice to hear from you.
Unfortunately, there is no way to repair this damage.
I had such a problem on a very old bevelled glass mirror which was in a fantastic frame.
I wanted to keep the old glass very badly, so I scraped all the silvering off the back, then had a new piece of mirror cut and placed it behind the beveled glass and placed both back in the frame. New mirror is very thin, and both pieces fit in the frame very well.
I am very happy with the results. You cannot tell this is not the original old mirror.
Perhaps this is your solution too.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
