Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Missing handle

Question
I have inherited an oak chest of drawers, age uncertain but I think over 200 yrs.  0ne of the 8 brass handles is missing.  What do you suggest I do?

Answer
Hi Chris
Nice to hear from you.
First I would like you to try this site for a repo handle.

http://www.vandykes.com/subcategory/52/

Van Dykes have an extensive inventory of handles.
If that fails I would be happy to check my inventory and see if I have a match....I would need a picture, and the distance between the mounting holes, but we can get to that later if you can't locate what you want at Van Dykes.
It would be great to see your wonderful old dresser with a full set of hardware.
Get back to me the same way as you sent this question.
Good Luck
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
