Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Pewter

QuestionMartin Roberts,
First I want to thank you for any information that you send me.
I found a pewter bowl or vessel while digging out a foundation about a month ago.
It is round with two handles like the kind on a coffee cup on each side. It is about three inches high at the top of the handles that are raised about one half inch above the rim of the bowl. It is about one and one quarter inches wide not including the handles. I see no seems where it was put together including the bottom. On the front is the gothic letter B I think and on the bottom is the picture of a pitcher with the word pewter stamped in a diagonal with the numbers 314 stamped directly under the pitcher. The object is very dark in color inside and out. That is about all the information that i can provide at this time. Any ideas of what it is or was used for ?
Thank you again,
Roger
Answer-
It has not been in the ground very long, and I don't know what it was used for. I cannot identify the maker, but the type of mark, including the word "pewter" and a pattern number, is typical of 20th Century Britannia metal pieces. Pieces of this date are often teawares or giftware.
Hope that helps.
Martin
