Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Pewter Quill

Question
I have an old pewter quill holder. There is a label on the bottom saying 1018 but I am not sure if that is the auction number or the year. Engraved in the bottom are the letters S and O with a crown in the middle. Could you please help me determine how old it is?
Thanks.

It's an English inkwell, with holes around the edge for pens (not quills). The inkwell would have a ceramic liner in the centre, usually missing.

These were made at all dates from the medieval period until the mid 20th century, but most now seen are mid 19th century and later. Yours is 20th century, having been made for use in a government office - probably a post office. SO = Stationery Office.
