Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Roos Cedar Chest

Followup To Question - +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I have an old Roos cedar chest and have two questions:

What were the lid limiters (the things on the two sides that kept the lid from opening too far) made of. Both mine are missing? Is there anywhere I can obtain them?

Is there anywhere I can get the button mechanism that keeps the lid locked. Mine is missing. My mother (original owner) must have child proofed the chest.

the limiters are not brass but hook onto a stud in the lid and another on the base. Do you know what it was made of. Leather, chain, rope, ...?
No luck on the lock, have sent them a follow-up emial.

Any other places to look?

Hi Stan
Nice to hear from you.
Both the items can be easily found at the following web site.

Very reputable company.
The hinges and closers would be brass.
Good Luck

Answer
Hi Again Stan
I have never seen a cedar chest with anything but brass "limiters".
For sure chain would get caught up in the lid, and rope too.
I found these pictures of a roos chest (link below)..they clearly show the brass "limiters" I am referring to.
Is it possible the original ones were replaced with something else. The screw holes would be clearly visible if this was the case.
Let me know. In the meantime I'll keep looking and see what I can find.

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
