Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Small pewter box

Question
I recently purchased a small pewter box, about 2"hx4"l and 1.5"h, with mark of Gay and Son, High Holborn.  Obviously London, but I don't know any more than that.  I googled the maker name, and did some other quick research and found your link.  Thanks

I don't recognise the name, so it is probable they were retailers rather than makers. Boxes of this size are common. If plain, probably for sandwiches, fishing tackle, or a hundred other possible things; if decorated, then jewellery and the like.
