Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Spotless Teadle Sewing Machine

Question
I have recently purchased a Treadle sewing machine thinking it was built by Standard, reason being the cast treadle part. But on the machine head the word Spotless instead of Standard appears. Also I can see Richmond Va on the side. The thimbles are the long , small diameter of older Machines (1900?). It is a 4 drawer oak cabinet.
My question is is it original made by Standard for someone or perhaps just someone mixture of a couple different machines. I would also like to know the vintage of it if it's likely original. I can send a picture later if needed.
Thanks
Randy Pratt

Answer
Hello Randy,
The Standard Sewing Machine Co.,Cleveland, OH, manufactured machines and cabinets from 1884-1931.

The Standard Shuttle Sewing Machine Co.,N.Y. New York  manufactured machines from 1874-1881.

The cabinets did not always match the machines they held so this is not unusual. What is frustrating however is that
I have searched my files and also undertaken an internet search and I regret to say that I came up empty-handed when it comes to a SPOTLESS sewing machine.

I'm sorry I cannot be of more help to you but if I do find anything on this machine, I will email a follow-up to this query.

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
