Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Stain on Furniture

Question
Hello,
I placed a somewhat warm pizza box on a dinning room table (fruitwood). It created a white/cloudy stain and a small amount of the box also adhered to it.
Is there anything I can do to remove this as it is my mother's table and I feel bad enough about being so careless.
Thank you for any suggestions.
Chris

Answer
Hi Chris
Nice to hear from you.
I am sorry to hear this has happened.
Get some super fine steel wool and dip in a bit of mayonaise and rub with the grain.
If nothing else this will remove the box pieces.
It may also remove the white cloudy area but if not get a product called "blush eraser" at the hardware. Follow instructions.
Hope this helps Chris
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
