Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Stitchwell Toy Sewing Machine

Question
My Mother in law died and left a toy Stitchwell sewing machine.  It is in very good condition and I would love to learn more about it, including what it might be worth.

I also have one that is called Stitch Mistress...it's a very basic, old machine.  Would you have any information on it?

Answer
Hello Sandi,
The Stitchwell Sewing machine was made in the USA by the National Sewing Machine Co, Belvidere, Illinois. I would suspect that your Stitch Mistress is a variation of the Stitchwell. The NSMC made many variations of the Stitchwell machine.
It is always difficult to place a value on an item without a) seeing it in person or b)knowing the exact condition of the piece.
The USMACS (International Sewing Machine Collectors' Society) may be able to assist you with a value.

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
