Question
I have a sugar & creamer set with this inscribed on the bottom of both pieces....
Victorian
Plate
E.P.B.M.
397

What does all of that mean?
How can I clean it?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!!

EPBM = electroplated Britannia Metal, a cheap silver substitute, utterly despised by collectors. Britannia Metal is a pewter alloy used in fabricating (rolling, stamping, etc) rather than casting objects. 397 = pattern number. The use of 'Victorian' implies it is not Victorian, though I've not encountered the mark. Say c1910. Not worth cleaning, but if you insist, just use a good metal polish.
