Question
Can you advise the probable age and origin of a tea set that has been passed down from my parents estate.
It consists of a Tea pot, sugar bowel, cream jug & coffee pot.
Markings from top down are trumpet with flag, 4 hall marks,EPBM, E868, 11/2
Thanks.

Made by James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield, England, not earlier than about 1880, and probably rather later.

EPBM = electroplated Britannia metal, a cheap silver plate. BM is a pewter alloy formulated to be suitable for stamping, spinning, etc (fabrication) rather than casting.

E868 is a pattern number. 11 is probably the factory workbench identifier. 2 may be the capacity in Imperial half-pints.

Value very small as EPBM is despised by collectors and it is not especially old.

Hope that helps.
