Question
Hi Eileen,
I would like to thank you so much for your time and response to my email about my cedar chest.  I absoluteley love my cedar chest its age is roughly what you said(90) as I am only 33 I inherited the chest when I was 15 or 16.  I use it in my living as a coffee table although nothing gets put on it!!!!! It currently has my husband's and my old Navy uniforms in it.  I plan on passing it down to my daughter.  Once again I greatly appreciate your time.  I have more furniture that I would like to ask about.

I have a bedroom set that on the receipt says Gamble-skogmo Minneapolis, Minnesota.  It was left for us when we bought our house.  It contains a 4 drawer dresser, vanity with 4 drawers and mirror, and a fullsize bed with a headboard and footboard.  From what I understand it is in the waterfall design and dark wood.  I really love antigues(but my feet and toes don't). Is there anyway to find out how old it is?

Once again Thank so so very much
Jen

Answer
Hi Again Jen
Thank you for the kind words.
It makes this job worthwhile to know I helped.
If you are willing to remove the back, or backs of the vanity mirrors they are often stamped with the date of manufacture...makes it easy doesn't it?
The oldest stamp I found was early thirties, but I cannot tell you when this practice started. Perhaps early 1900"s.
I suspect your set is from the 40's...just a guess LOL.
Get back to me.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
