Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Thimbles & Funnel
Expert: Barbara K. Acchino - 2/28/2005
QuestionI have a couple of old thimbles and a funnel left to me by my grandmother. One thimble and the small funnel has Taxco imprinted on the inside with what looks like 925 also. The other thimble has "CG", I think in the inside and a 6, I believe on the inside. I was thinking about putting them on ebay but don't really know anything about them or their worth. I would appreciate any information you can give me!
Thank You,
Beth Neal
AnswerHello Beth. I can't help you with the funnel, but I can help you with the thimble marked Taxco. It is from Mexico (Taxco is a city there) The 925 signifies sterling silver. It may have applied wire work decoration, turquoise stones or applied mother of pearl pieces. These thimbles were primarily made for the tourist trade from the 50s on and are still being made today. They are very common and if there are no holes, dings or dents and the thimble is still "in round" where the finger is inserted, the thimble is worth between $5 and $12. As far as the "CG" thimble, I would need to see digital pictures to help you. If you have that capability, please forward them to me at bacchino@twcny.rr.com and I'll be happy to tell you whatever I can about it.
