Question
Hello, I am intrested in Pewter Mugs made by James Yates.  I have recently perchesed some and am starting a collection. I know the touch marks are quantity verification and the VR means int the reign of Victoria.  However, I believe the numbers give reference to the location where these mugs were used.  Could you please guide me to a websit where I could look up these touch marks?

Thank you for your time,
James Yates

Hello James,

I think you bid on one of my eBay offerings a few weeks ago! You are right about the verification marks - seem my website (www.antique-metalware.co.uk) and click on the menu option for verifications, where you will find some informaiton and a lookup tool for checking the numbers.

By the way, 'touchmark' is a term usually reserved for a maker's mark - capacity checks might be generically termed 'die-struck' or 'stamped' or 'impressed' marks.

Best regards, and I hope you find interesting mugs!
