Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Value of old pair of sewing scissors

Question
My grandmother left me an old pair of sewing scissors.  They are 3 1/2" long, silver colored, in the shape of a crane, and measuring 1 1/2"  wide at the handles.  One of the blades has a "C" marking and the name "W.H.Morle".  On the other blade is another "C" with what appears to be a flower design underneath.  Was just curious as to how old they were and the value?

Answer
Hello Tim.  You have a pair of stork scissors.  They were often used by embroiderers as they were small and usually had very sharp blades.  These have been made for many years, and continue to be produced today.  The makers mark you describe is not familiar to me, but then again, I don't have a vast array of scissors in my collection.  There are many books you can refer to for marks.  The Internet has many resources and you may want to check your local library.  As for how old they are - you would be able to tell that from when the manufacturer was in business.  I couldn't give you a value, as I don't know the condition.  Looks like your quest is just beginning.  Good luck, Barb
