Question
.,I have an old piece that my Grandfather passed to me. He called it a "chefrobe" pronounced "Shif-robe", not sure of the spelling. It' a bedroom piece, four drawers, a mirrored closet, not a big piece of furniture, kind of a cross between a miniture amoire and a chest of drawers. It stands on four legs with rolling castor wheels.
"Vicksburg Manufacturing Co." is stamped on the inside door of the closet.
If I remember correctly he said it was his mother's furniture which means it could be from late 1800's to 1940's?.,.,.,.,any info from you on this would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Ric
Nice to hear from you.
I could find nothing on the company that made it, but I am in Canada and certainly not familiar with the manufacturers in the states.
Would it be possible to see a picture?

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
