Question
I just purchased a Drexel buffet server at a thrift store.  It is mahogany in color and in very good condition.  I found an old tag inside the drawer that said "Drexel buffet, 3pc, mahogany.  I'm sure it was separated from the dinning table and china cabinet.  The date on the price tag said 8-1-52.  This tag was very old and dusty.  I paid $225.00.  Just curious as to whether it was worth much more?

Answer
Hi Nancy
Nice to hear from you.
This buffet would have been made in 1952, and was from a set.
If its mahogany, I feel you paid a fair price for it.
In my neck of the woods (ontario Canada) these "not so old" buffets get lots of bids at auction.
It would not be unusual to see them fetch $300.00 at a well attended auction in the summer when all the tourists are around.
I think you did great, and nice that the money goes to those less fortunate.
I have purchased lots of great things at our local thrift store.
Good Luck with all your future buys.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
