Question
Dear Eileen,
I recently purchased a waterfall cedar hope chest.  The style number is 96-45 with serial number is 13915.  There is no stamp and it looks like it was from the 1930's.  Do you have any idea who might have manufactured it or can you send me to any websites or links to help me find this out.  It has an attached shelf when opening the chest.  It is in really good condition.  Any help you could give me would be really greatly appreciated.  Thanks.  Lynn

Answer
Hi Lynn
Nice to hear from you
Cedar chests have been mass produced for many many years, by many manufacturers.
There is just no way that I (or anyone) could identify the manufacturer.
I did a Google search for "cedar chests" and 210,000 sites came up, but I doubt if what you seek could be found there.
The waterfall chests are my favorite type, and I do notice they bring a bit more at auction than the flat tops.
Sorry I could not be more help Lynn
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
