Question
How do I restore the Windsor Rocking chair?

Answer
Hi Naomi
Nice to hear from you.
Without knowing what exactly is wrong with you Windsor rocker its a little hard to guide you.
And as you asked about "restoring" and not "refinishing", I assume the chair is not in bad shape overall.
So first I would glue any loose joints if necessary, then a good cleaning with mineral spirits.
If the dirt is heavy I would use a superfine steel wool pad as a scrubber.
Then a good coat of pastewax.
This may be all that is necessary to restore your rocker to its original beauty. I hope so.
If the finish is badly damaged, it will need replacing.
This is a whole different ball game so get back to me if this is the case.
Good Luck and thanks for a great question.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
