Question
I JUST GOT AN AMERICAN 400 SERIES SCALE.COULD YOU TELL ME WHAT THE VALUE WOULD BE.THE SCALE WORKS AND THE DOOR NEEDS ADJUSTING TELLING THE FORTUNE.THE PAINT IS OLD AND CRACKLED.CAN I SPRAY THE WORKINGS WITH WD-40 OR WOULD THAT RUIN THE INSIDES? THANKS MIKE

Answer
Hi Mike,
American Scale Model 400 made in 1947, made right after world war II. The model 400 has the four coin chute so you got a Penney back if you guessed right. Plus your fortune in a drum dial, and weight. WOW, grand slam for just a  Penney! Value is $100.00. As for WD-40, I hate the stuff, I only use it for removing sticky gummy labels, which it works really good on. I use a product called Zoom Spout oiler, is available at shucks auto parts, sears service centers, or hardware stores and is a good fine quality oil. I wouldn't spray a bunch of oil in it as it will go every whare and attack dust and make a mess. I am sure it most likely wouldn't hurt anything if you did, but I wouldn't use it.
Sincerely

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
