Collectibles-General (Antiques)/antique sewing machine

Question
I have a Standard antique sewing machine. The word Standard is on the machine itself in gold writing. It is in a cabinet that opens from the left and machine comes up, foot pedals as well. Very heavy. Iron type scrolled legs with wheels. Wood on cabinet/table is dark -  possibly walnut and has 2 drawers on the left and 2 on the right.  Any approximate value on this? Thanks, Diana

Answer
Hello Diane,
Thanks for your query.
As a general rule, there is a value to anything but how much is the question. Antique value is determined by the rarity of the object and the condition.
I have seen these old machines in poor to fair condition fetch a $100 and those that are in excellent condition at least $400.
The Standard machine is not unique nor rare -- it was mass produced for the US market.
If you plan on selling your machine and cabinet, I would take good photos of it and show it to a few antique dealers. They will best be able to tell you what the current market will bear in your area.

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
