Question
As a child I had a child's sewing machine in the 50's.  It was green and had the crank on the right side that turned to make stitches.  If I remember correctly it was lightweight, perhaps a tin or pot metal.  I believe it had suction cups to hold it securely to the table.  Do you know the brand or can you help me find one of these?  thanks

Answer
Hello Glenna,
It sounds like you are describing the BETSY ROSS salesman sample machine (or toy/miniature sewing machine). It has black suction cups on the base. The BETSY ROSS machine however, is not made of tin or pot metal.  It is heavy gauge metal that has been painted a sea green color. The BETSY ROSS imprint with Pat. Pend. Made in U.S.A.
Your best bet at finding this item would be on eBay and you would have the advantage of viewing other small toy machines as well.
Regards,
Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
