Question
I saw a question you had answered on 9/13/06 about a tool found in a tool box you had requested a pic. and thought it might be a "stiletto". I have exactly the same tool and cant find a pic anywhere. I dont know what a "stiletto" is can you refer me to a site or send me a pic of what it is? or if the previous person with the same question sent you a pic. let me know what you found out. I too do not have a camera. If it is a Stiletto is it worth anything. and what were they used for? sorry for all the questions. Thank you for any information you can provide.
Kimberly

Answer
Hello Kimberly.  A stiletto is an awl or pick type of instrument used in embroidery and sewing.  It can punch holes in fabric so you can stitch around it....as in eyelet lace.  I use one today to hold two pieces of fabric together as it gets toward the sewing machine needle....it doesn't distort the fabric pieces as straight pins can do.  A stiletto was usually included in a woman's sewing box.  You do not say what material or the condition of your stiletto, if that's what it is, so I can't give you a value sight unseen.  There are a number of books out on sewing tools.  Perhaps your local library has some or can order them for you, so that you may see what a stiletto in a sewing workbox looks like.  Good luck with your search.  Barb
