Question
One of the wings have allot of gold leafing...the other does not. I would like to remove the gold leafing from the one. Is there a way to do this without harming the wood?

Answer
Hi Evelyn
Nice to hear from you.
In all my years I have never removed real gold leafing, but I suspect it can not be removed in any other way but scraping...this will hurt the wood.
Evelyn, are you sure this is real gold leaf and not paint?
Sorry not much help here but without seeing the wings its a tough question.
You could certainly try a test spot with paint stripper which is what I would do.
If it works, great and it will not harm the wood.
My overall opinion though would be to leave the angel as is if this is in fact an antique.
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
