Question
We have a weather gauge which is about 80 years + its classed as a banjo wooden style shape,it is also crafted with patterns top and bottom, the temp gauge is at the top and the clock face is at the bottom it is all enclosed in brass edges around the clock area, there is no names maker we can see,it came from an old school house and was passed down through family. With no name or marking that we can see would this piece be worth any money?

Answer
Hi Huttons
Nice to hear from you.
Just because this piece does not have a makers name, it does not mean it has no value.
It has survived 80+ years, so it will be well made for sure.
It sounds lovely to me, and I would certainly not part with it if it was passed through the family.
If you are really curious as to value, try taking it to some antique dealers for a look.
In my experience, I see items like this fetching good money at auctions.

Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
