Collectibles-General (Antiques) - bedroom furniture

Expert: Fred Taylor - 3/13/2005

Question
looking for value on a old waterfall bedroom set.double bed, 2 night stands, 1 high boy dresser and dressing table with mirror

Answer
Bonnie - The term "waterfall" simply refers to the rounded front edge of the case goods. That was one stylistic element found in "Art Moderne" furniture of the 1930s and 1940s. Art Moderne was the name used for what we now call Art Deco. But the waterfall was only one element.

Value of the set depends not on the waterfall design but on the type of wood used, the complexity of the veneer patterns, the overall quality of the set, the brand name if available, the overall condition and many other things. If you can send me some photos of the set I will be happy to provide any information I can. Send photos as .jpg files to me at fmtaylor@aol.com. Thanks. Fred Taylor
