We purchased this horse in 1988. It was part of a complete carousel from Germany. The antique shop thought this was made early in the 1940's, possibly carved by Josef Huber. It has a horse hair tail and glass eye. Has some cracking, but has never been repainted. We wish to sell and would like a appraisal and possibly more info. Thanks, enjoyed spending the afternoon reading other mails DON
Answer Sorry to have to inform you that your horse is not an authentic carousel figure, nor is it very old. This is a poor knock-off of a German style horse, but yours was made by machine in the Philippines. These have been imported to this country since the early 1980's; ever since carousel collecting started to become popular. These are often synthetically aged before being sold.
This figure is worth nothing to a carousel art collector. As a "decorative item", you may be able to find someone to pay you in the $200.00 area but I don't think you'll see much more than that.
