Collectibles-General (Antiques)/cast candlesticks

Question
I've noticed a number of brass candlesticks that are being sold as very old and are in fact cast with seams on sides, but have the look of much newer sticks, wrong patination and weight. Were candlesticks made , aside from the obvious Virginia Metalcrafters, that have copied this method of manufacture? Thanks for your help. Fred Rizner

Good question - wish I could be sure of the answer! I too have seen candlesticks which were, shall we say, perhaps more youthful than their vendors would like us to believe. But I have not seen any hard evidence for the use of vertical seams in modern copies. Remember that I'm in the UK, so have a rather different landscape of authenticity, copy and fake to look over.
