Question
I would like to know if there is any catalog that would list that specific chest according to the information I have, and if you would be willing to give me your opinion on what the chest might be worth today. I understand that it would only be a guess and that you do not provide appraisals, but anything you can offer just based on your expertise and past experiences would be very helpful.  Thanks.

Question -
I have a Cavalier Cedar Chest (No. 890; Serial No. 9679) from Tennessee Furniture Company in Chattanooga, TN. I know that it is a 1930s chest, and have found a lot of information on the jitterbug website.  I haven't been able to find any site that I can look the chest up by the serial and model number, and am very curious to find any information that may be available. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.  The chest does contain most if not all of the paperwork that is attached in the inside lid, along with the Cavelier man and plaque on the front.

Thanks, Melanie
Answer -
Hi Melanie
Nice to hear from you.
Melanie, I'm unclear exactly what you wish to find about your chest.
You know where it was made and by whom, and you have the date of manufacture.
Do you wish to know the type of wood and the value?
Regards
Eileen

Answer
Hi again Melanie
I do not know if there is a book on Cavalier chests, but as with any piece of furniture, condition is everything.
I can only tell you what I have seen Cavalier chests sell for in my area.
They range from $125.00 to $475.00.
Hope this helps
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
