Question

scale pic
Was curious is you would have any idea how old this scale is and an idea of what it might be worth. It was in a country store west of Williston, ND.  Thank you  The number on the seal is 37600

Answer
Hi. I think your scale is dated to the late 1800s, because shortly after that the company became Dayton Scale. It seems to be in excellent condition and made of brass and steel. I am not sure if that is the original marble. If it is, it adds to the value. Values of these types of scales range from $50 to $3000 depending on the fanciness, size, condition, etc. The larger ones with the porcelain coating, ornate design, and glass windows tend to be the higher priced ones. I would say yours is worth $200 to $300.

Thanks
