Experience I have been a dealer for 15 years, and a collector for 40, specializing in Art Glass. You can see my collection at WishfulThings.com . Although my primary interest is in antique glass of American and European origin, I am also familiar with contemporary glassmakers. I have an extensive research library approaching 350 volumes.
Question I HAVE A SET OF SIX CUT GLASS CRYSTAL DESSERT DISHES. THEY ARE SMALL DISHES ON A SMALL STEM AND BASE. EACH HAS AN ETCHING ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BASE WHICH READS 'RD 681649 STUART' THE BASE MEASURES 6cm ACROSS, THE TOP MEASURES 10 AND THREE QUARTER cm ACROSS AND THEY STAND 9cm TALL. PLEASE COULD YOU TELL ME ANYTHING YOU CAN ABOUT THESE IE; AGE, VALUE IF ANY, AND WHERE THEY ORIGINATE FROM. THANKS. I HAVE A DIGITAL CAMERA AND COULD SEND A PHOTO IF NEEDED.
Answer Hi Ken,
Your dishes were made by Stuart & Sons, Stourbridge England. The company started in 1881 and is still in business. Your Rd number dates to 1921, which doesn't neccessarily mean that was when it was made, but the design was registered that year. Generally speaking, small cut glass dishes, are of nominal value.
Good luck,
Fred
