Collectibles-General (Antiques)/darning eggs

Question
I have old black egg my mother used in 30's. It's well pocked with needle marks. Is it worth saving?

Answer
Hello Abbie.  Believe it or not, darners are collectible.  But the run of the mill, common ones don't bring much at all.  I assume from your description that the egg part is wood.  If it has a sterling handle, it might bring a bit for the value of silver.  There is a book published on darners that you might be able to have your local library or book store request for you:  It's "Darn It!  The History and Romance of Darners" by Wayne Muller.  It has a price guide.  You might also search on ebay for something similar to what you have to see what they are selling for.  Good luck.  Barb
