Question
I have acquired an old Ed Roos cedar chest that is in excellent condition.  This has to be from the late 30's to early 40's as there is an insurance tag on the inside cover that states they will insure for $250 for any moth damage.  The expiration date on that was 1944.  Chest style=5001 and serial number is 382253.  I was just curious how much this may be worth?  Thank You.   Eric

Answer
Hi Eric
Nice to hear from you.
As you probably guessed, the insurance tag means the company was so confident that moths would never get in this chest and eat the blankets that they insured the contents for up to $250.00.
While these chests are lovely, they are still redily available and reasonably priced.
The following info I copied from someone else inquiring about their chest and I include it here for you.

Question
My husband and I have an Ed Roos cedar chest which was owned by his great-grandmother and were curious about the general value. It's original price is listed inside and was $100. Can you give me any idea of the potential value? If not, could you give us the name of a book(s) which might help us?
Thanks!
Morrighan

Answer
Hi Morrighan
Nice to hear from you.
I would say your chest would be in the $300 to $400 range.
I live in Canada and things here are rather high for the most part.
I copied and pasted some price ranges for cedar chests, and as you can see they vary.
Hope this helps

Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
