Question
I saw a chair today marked Edwardian. It was also marked circa 1900.I thought Edwardian was before 1900?It has a tall, straight back with a little detail on the back. A vary flat square seat and is cedar red in colour. The vendor was not in so I was unable to ask about it.

Answer
Antonia - The Edwardian period or Edwardian era is genrally considered to be the period 1901 to 1910, the reign of King Edward VII. It is sometimes extended to include the period to the start of World War I in 1914 or even the end of the war in 1918. This is the period that immediately followed that of Queen Victoria who was ruler from 1837 - 1901.

Edwardian artifacts are , by definition, English and are not especially popular with American collectors.
